This book by Alan Gratz might have the potential to push me into liking the genre of historical fiction. Along with reading this book, I have learned many things about the environments of the world at this time. I never knew before that there were revolts in Cuba and Syria, and I did not know anything about Kristallnacht. I love this book, and it helped me to learn some new things too.

The main character, Benjamin is experienced because he had been in the academy for 16 months. During these 16 months he had seen the principle express many different types of his personalities. None of them have been good. Some of them are angry, obnoxious, confused and sometimes just flat-out mean.

Harry Potter And The Sorcerer's Stone

I read this book (and the whole series) many times before, but I still enjoy reading it over and over again. The sorcerers stone is the first book in the series, which introduces the protagonist Harry to the wizarding world. I found this book interesting for its strong mystery and suspenseful elements, and because it wasn’t all just fantasy. I would recommend this book (and series) to people who don’t like fantasy that much if they want to learn to become more fond of it.

This book is about two kids from different times. Brandon is a nine-year old kid from New York who's going to the 107th floor of the World Trade Center on September 11th, 2001. Reshmina is an eleven-year old girl from a small village in Afghanistan on September 11th, 2019. In Brandon's time, the twin towers were attacked and destroyed, including the World Trade Center, leaving him stuck in a place of either life or death. He lost his father, and was placed in the safety of another man named Richard Lowery during the attacks. They grew really close, and he was eventually adopted by Richard, since his father was killed in the attacks. Later, Brandon joined the army to find and fight who had led the attacks, and ended up staying in Afghanistan to fight back the Taliban, an Afghani group. He was part of the search the Army and the Afghan National Army was conducting in Reshmina’s village, and later, his group was killed by a Taliban bombing, leaving him the only survivor left. He took shelter in Reshmina's home, which was eventually blown up by another bombing, and she and her village were forced to seek refuge in an underground cave that would temporarily keep them safe. Both faced suffering in their own times, but know fully of the words war and destruction, and from past experiences and new ones they saw together, it shows them that no side is justified. The Al-Qaeda had led a horrendous attack, leaving several people dead, and many others injured. But when Americans arrived in Afghanistan to help fight the war against the Taliban, just as many innocent people had to live a life of terror. Brandon realized that the war he was fighting no longer had a purpose. If he stayed, he destroyed, and if he left, the Taliban would only grow in power again after all those years of fighting. This is a summary of the book “Ground Zero” by Alan Gratz.

This book was very interesting. It was the story of many people, but mostly Cynthia Ann Parker and her Son Quannah Parker. Something intriguing happens almost every page. In the book, Cynthia Ann is kidnapped and brought to to the Comanches, where she was treated horribly and forced to do hard labor. When she grows older, she marries Peta Nocona, and gives birth to her son Quannah. I would recommend this book to people who are interested into historical events and biographies.

This all happened because Mallory won Fashion Fran’s Fashion Contest, earning her a paid trip to New York and more.

Percy Jackson And The Olympians: The Chalice Of The Gods
by Rick Riordan

book cover

This book is about Percy Jackson attending his senior year at Alternative High School in New York City. He's trying to apply to be selected into the New Rome University, but in order for his application to be valid, he must get three recommendations from three different gods from Mount Olympus, and in order to receive the letters, he must first complete a quest for each god. One day, when he and his friends Annabeth and Grover went to Himbo-Juice to relax, Ganymede, Zeus's cup-bearer, and protector of the Chalice of the gods, an extremely important goblet on Mount Olympus, showed up. He had lost the Chalice, and needed Percy to retrieve it before the next Olympic feast. He faced many challenges along the way, including meeting Hebe, the goddess of youth, and Iris, the messenger goddess. He eventually figured out that Gary, the god of Old Age, had stolen the Chalice. The Chalice could grant immortality to mortals or demigods who drank from it, and Gary resented this since they would try to avoid the Old Age. Percy figured out how to get the Chalice back, and was able to deliver it back to Ganymede during the gods' brunch for Zeus' mother, Rhea. He received the recommendation letter and was one step closer to successfully graduating high school. The book ends with him and Annabeth talking to each other, evaluating the entire quest they had just completed. This is a summary of "Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Chalice of the gods".
